VIVA LAS VEGAS!!!
March 24th, 2009Take a look at the Team “up-close” as they traveled to Las Vegas to finish off a tremendously successful 2008 tournament year. After winning EVERY tournament that they entered as a team, individual accomplishments were the main focus at this event. Cedric Bryant came in as the number 1 teenager in the world but had to win both of his divisions to maintain it. Carlo Levell stood in the same position for the youth ratings. Did they do it? Check out the video below.
Also performing well at the event were; Jamil Hill-Taylor who captured titles, Ryan Villogram who won both of his teen divisions, Isaiah Edmond who got 1st place in the Gi division, Ti-jean Awad who took 1st and 3rd, Ross Olexa who got 2nd and 3rd, Derrick Holmes who got 1st and 3rd, Malachi Edmond who got two 2nds, Allahna Awad who got 2nd and 4th, and Kianna Washington who took two 4ths.
As always the team had a blast as they watched Cris Angel, drove high speed Go Karts, to name a few things. Not to mention the ever glorious “pigging-out” at the Brazilian Barbecue after making weight on Friday night.
Next year we hope to bring more kids but we will need everyone’s help. Please keep your eyes open for fundraiser activities held by the school. The team is also constantly looking for donations to help keep our kids on the mats and off the streets. If you are interested in making a donation to the team please email Master Donnie at dach34@aol.com.

Coming off it’s toughest win, Team Lloyd Irvin’s Kids Prepares for Showdown in VA!!!!
October 1st, 2008Well it was probably the toughest tournament to date. Not because of the great matches and competition at the event, but instead because of all the obstacles and mishaps leading up to, during and after the event. In short, we booked the wrong hotel which was 100 miles away from the venue. Three of our advanced stand-outs missed their divisions. Two gi’s were misplaced and to top it all off, Cedric Bryant had an ankle injury during his finals victory in the No Gi division.
BUT AS ALWAYS!!!
We pulled it out. That is what has set this team apart from the other teams across the country. Through thick and thin, Team Lloyd Irvin stays “in the cut” and continues to do what it does best…. HAVE FUN! Team titles are nice. The big Trophy Cups look fantastic in our lobby, but… Nothing compares to the positive support and family atmosphere that the kids have when they are away or in the gym. Cedric laughing and joking on crutches at the celebration Japanese Steakhouse dinner, or Jamil, Marquis, and Ross doing their victory dance. Maybe it was Donques and Malik running around like maniacs after they did the “rookie” initiation of eating wasabe with no water. Like always the team showed why it is the only youth team in the history of the sport to hold the top position for three years straight. Titles come and go, but friendship and family last forever. TEAM LLOYD IRVIN.
But now, bones are healed, and it’s time to get to work. For Those who don’t know, Team Lloyd Irvin’s Kids traveled to King William, VA this April and faced it’s toughest challenge in years. The other BJJ schools in the local area came out with full force and it took every effort that we could muster to pull out another team title. WELL IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN. We need everyone’s support! We got caught with our hands down in April but pulled it out anyways but this time we don’t want to leave anything to chance. We look forward to taking a large Beginner team this time to compliment our seasoned advanced competitors.
IT IS A PERFECT EVENT TO GO TO! Only a couple of hours away and there is a division for all skill levels and all ages.

Team Lloyd Irvin’s Child Prodigy Takes Another Step Towards His Goals
October 1st, 2008Ryan Villogram has always been a star. Shortly after his birth he was rushed back to emergency surgery to repair an unknown birth defect that had him literally dead for moments on the operating table as doctors fought to save his life. At 7 years old, he saw a street sign advertising a little known martial arts center in camp springs MD and begged his mom to bring him. At 11 years old he became Team Lloyd Irvin’s very first Junior Black Belt in Muay Thai. At 12, after over 3 years of competition, he finally won his very first grappling tournament gold medal. Less than 2 months later, his mother would pass suddenly and unexpectedly, leaving him without mother or father. Through all of this he maintained his composure. With the support of his grandparents, family, and martial arts instructors, Ryan remained focused on staying positive and achieving the goals he set.
One of his many goals are to become a World Champion in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. With everything that Ryan has shown so far, we don’t see why not. He has knocked down every challenge that he has faced, some of which most of us couldn’t fathom dealing with much less a child. Will he make it to the top of the podium? Well only time will tell. But this weekend Ryan got to demonstrate some of the results of his hard work. Take a look at this past Grappler’s Quest highlights of Ryan Villogram’s VERY FIRST advanced men’s division. Remember that Ryan Villogram is a 15 year GREEN BELT in BJJ.

Although we only brought about a 3rd of the team for these events, it was still enough to get the job done and continue the teams outstanding streak of victories. Even more importantly though was the motivation of the beginners who came out and laid it on the line. It is through your efforts that the team remains strong.

CHECK OUT WHAT HAPPENED IN LAS VEGAS
December 10th, 2007On Dec 1st, Master Lloyd sent 7 of his top youth guns to Las Vegas to Solidify the top spots in the 2007 Ratings. Take a look at the highlights from the weekend.

The team did great as they captured 9 advanced titles. Derrick Holmes solidified his place as the Number 1 Youth RATED grappler in the Country for 2007 in both Gi and No-Gi categories, matching the feat done last by now teen standout, Ryan Villogram in 2005. Ryan, also brought home a Championship Belt and Silver medal in his 1st tournament in over 5 months after tearing his abdominal muscle in August.
Carlo Levell and Cedric Bryant ran the table in both of their divisions as they flew back to Maryland with multiple titles.
Ti-Jean Awad came 1 match and 1 sec short from clean sweeping both of his divisions. Ti-jean at 84 lbs was the smallest of his 95 and below weight class and had his finals opponent in a full blown Kimura only to hear the buzzer sound simultaneously as his opponent tapped. It was a great match never the less with both Ti-Jean and his opponent fighting every second until the match was over. Ti-jean walked away with 1 Belt and 1 silver medal.
A great effort was also turned in by Aarae Alexander and Cory Walker (2 Bronze medals).
The Kids had a great time as always in Vegas. They arrived late Thursday evening and enjoyed many activities that Vegas had to offer. Among some were the Lance Burton Magic Show, and the Stratosphere Skyscraper Rides.
