Last week, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Champion Dustin Denes came to Camp Springs and spent some time with the Lloyd Irvin Kids Team.

  • Who is Dustin Denes?

Dustin “Clean” Denes fully immersed himself in the Brazilian Culture when he moved to Rio De Janiero to train full-time with the very elite of the art. While in Rio his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu game exploded, tearing through the competition.

In Brazil, he trained with the very best at Brazilian Top Team during it’s heyday, Carlson Gracie Academy, and De la Riva. Dustin Denes was also a pivotal part in the construction of Mixed Martial Arts Superpower, American Top Team.

In 2000 he went where no American had gone before, winning the brown belt absolute division at the Brazilian Nationals. After Clean received his Black Belt, he began his journey into MMA amassing a record of 13-4-2 in events all over the world.

Dustin Denes met Master Lloyd Irvin in Brazil 10 years ago and they’ve remained friends ever since. Now Clean makes frequent visits to the Camp Springs Headquarters to share his immense knowledge.

On December 4th 2010 Grapplers Quest put on the World Series Of Grappling in Asbury Park, New Jersey and the Team Lloyd Irvin Youth BJJ Team came in with full-force.

Judo,  the “Gentle Way“, is a grappling art developed in Japan by Jigoro Kano at the end of the 19th century. Judo is the base in which Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was formed and the two arts are extremely similar.

Today Judo is geared more towards putting your opponent to the mat with a series of throws and take-downs, while Brazilian Jiu Jitsu primarily focuses on what happens when the fight hits the floor.

That being said, Judo and BJJ blend together beautifully, creating a harmonious relationship of untold grappling potential.

The November 21st event was jam-packed with eager children and even more enthusiastic parents.

The NAGA NAGC is a pivotal piece of Team Lloyd Irvin Kids history. Several years ago, The North American Grappling Championship was the first tournament in which the entire squad traveled together to compete. This was the beginning of a legacy unmatched by any other youth team.

Over the past 5 years the Lloyd Irvin Kids Team completely dominated this event. The TLI youth has 5 consecutive first place finishes in the Team standings, a truly astonishing measure of dedication and determination.
